At a ceremony attended in person by local Leogâne Commune dignitaries and experts in the field plus several persons online via Zoom, the Municipal Water Action Plan for the commune was proudly presented by the assembled group. The plan is the fruition of many months of water diagnosis and solutions to best address the water issues in Leogâne.
The Mayor of Leogâne, Ernson Henry, addressed the assembly and profusely thanked the many persons and entities which came together to make the plan possible. He thanked all the Rotary clubs for their tireless work in the area and HANWASH in particular, for understanding the critical need for potable water in the commune.
He pointed out that it had taken many years of work by local experts, working hand in hand with Rotary and HANWASH, to complete the comprehensive study. This plan will allow Leogâne to ensure that clear and insightful decisions are made, which will ameliorate the hardships experienced by many persons in the community, as they struggle to find potable water. He commended the goal of HANWASH to not only assist Leogâne but eventually to provide water access to the entire country. This will suspend suffering and secure prosperity for the citizens.
An introduction to the details of the plan was presented by the Rotary Club of Leogâne leaders President Sherly Jean Louis and Public Image Chair Yveson Pascal, who showed maps and essential statistics, which had been finalized after extensive and in-depth analysis of the water needs and challenges in Leogâne.
Leogâne is an example of the importance of the cooperation and involvement of all local stakeholders, essential to the success of any of the water projects undertaken by HANWASH in the whole of Haiti.
