A Diverse Board with a Shared Mission

Access to clean drinking water is a fundamental human right, yet millions of people around the world still lack it. In Haiti, a country that has faced numerous challenges, from natural disasters to political instability, the struggle for clean water is particularly acute. Hanwash has recently announced the formation of a new Board of Directors. This dedicated group, comprising both seasoned advocates and fresh faces, steps up to oversee the continuing installation of wells throughout the country, an initiative which promises to bring transformative economic and health benefits, as well as a brighter future for the people of Haiti.
The new Board of Directors blends experience with fresh perspectives, creating a dynamic team ready to tackle Haiti’s water crisis head-on. Some members have previously served, bringing a wealth of knowledge and continuity to the initiative. Their understanding of the challenges and progress made so far is invaluable. The new members, meanwhile, infuse the board with innovative ideas and renewed energy, ensuring a comprehensive approach to the task at hand.

A New Chairman

Taking the helm as Chairman of the Board of HANWASH Inc. is PRID Jeremy Hurst. Jeremy brings a wealth of experience to the post, having previously served as a director and as the inaugural Steering Committee Chair. He stated his vision moving forward:
“it’s key that we try new approaches, that we aim to be nimble, and learn from both our successes and challenges. We must build the knowledgebase and create robust systems that will allow us to reach our audacious goal of clean water and improved sanitation and hygiene for all the people of Haiti”

HANWASH stalwarts Robert Leger (Vice Chair), Bob Hobaugh (Secretary) and John Smarge (Treasurer) continue in their roles, bringing their continuing dedication to HANWASH once again.

A New Board of Directors

HANWASH is delighted to welcome PRIP Barry Rassin back to the Board again; he was the original, Founding Chair of HANWASH and it is partly due to his vision and dedication, that HANWASH became a reality. His dream was and is to bring potable water and good sanitation to the entire country of Haiti. He brings a wealth of experience, passion, and commitment to his role.

HANWASH is immeasurably fortunate to have a body of dedicated professionals joining him on the Board: Cynde Covington, Board Chair 2022-2024, who has sincere thanks from everyone working with HANWASH for her tireless dedication, continues as a Board member; Fritz Pierre-Louis has stepped down from his role of Steering Committee Chair and, together with the SC Vice Chair, Neil Van Dine, both become Directors; Barb Spangler joins the Board and takes over as Steering Committee Chair; completing the ‘dream team’ are Guy Theodore and Erica Gwynn, together with ‘ex officio’ Board member & Executive Director, Ryan Rowe.

A Shared Vision for a Brighter Future

The new board of directors overseeing HANWASH is a testament to the power of collaboration and commitment. By combining the wisdom of experience with the innovation of new ideas, they are creating a pathway to a healthier, more prosperous Haiti. Their work is not just about building wells; it’s about building hope, fostering economic growth, and ensuring that every Haitian has access to the fundamental right of clean drinking water. Together, they are making a profound difference, one well at a time.

You, too, can make a difference – donate to HANWASH today.
